In 1921 on this date, insulin was isolated for the first time by Canadian scientists Frederick Banting and Charles Best at the University of Toronto. Cheers to Banting and Best!

Their discovery helped save the life of my youngest daughter. Instead of a death sentence with the diagnosis of type I diabetes in December 2006, she is able to live a normal life (if you don’t count the constant blood sugar testing, ketone testing, and insulin injections).
