Last night, I took my nook out of the bowl of rice.  It still wouldn’t turn on, so I decided to charge it and see if it would come on after that.  I’d resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to buy another nook.  When I plugged it in to charge, the little orange light came on.  After 30 minutes or so, the screen came on.  I was so excited at seeing it that I could hardly breathe.  I didn’t think to take a photo of the lovely, perfect, working screen until this afternoon.

When I went to bed on January 2, I left my nook (on standby) on the rug beside my bed.  During the night, I somehow knocked off the glass of water that was on my nightstand.  The next day, my nook had little lines across the screen and wouldn’t turn on after I had it in front of a fan for most of the day.  My oldest daughter suggested that I put it in rice to soak up the moisture, so into a big bowl of rice it went to stay for a few days.

I love this photo of my 15 year old daughter.

We recently discovered a little diner on Route 66 in Yukon, Oklahoma called Fat Elvis’ diner (formerly Sid’s Diner). The owner is an Elvis impersonator. When we were there, my 15 yr old daughter and one of her best friends posed for a photo with “Elvis.”

Today is my birthday. I couldn’t let anyone eat this pretty cupcake without getting a photo first.

My answer:  My mom.  She’s amazing.  She is the best person I know.  Her integrity, the example she sets for everyone who knows her, her work ethic are all things that set her apart.  She’s gentle but tough, she loves fiercely and is always willing to stand up for what she believes in.  She inspires me every day.  I’m thankful she’s my mom and my friend.  I hope my kids will look at me the way I see her.

My new favorite drink. I love this stuff. It’s absolutely wonderful!

My answer:   I have a short list of things I’d like to get done this week – aside from relaxing on Thursday with my family and feeling thankful for all the wonderful people, family, friends in my life.

1.  Purchase the few gifts left on my list that haven’t made it home with me yet.

2. Buy wrapping paper and ribbon.

3.  Decorate the house.

4. Give the dogs a bath and wash their beds.  (This is the job I most dread – that’s why it’s at the bottom and the most likely to not get done.  I may break down and take them to PetSmart for a bath and all I’ll have to do is wash their beds.)
